SIALKOT:
Education Department officials have stopped the salaries of 200 male and female teachers this week.
Sialkot District Education Officer (DEO) Rehana Kausar told reporters that the salaries had been stopped so that the academic degrees of the teachers in question could be verified.
Kausar said that the teachers had been appointed in 2009 and were posted at different government schools in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur. She said that the verification of their degrees was being carried out thoroughly on the orders of Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.
Kausar said that in the event that any of the degrees were found to be fake, fraud cases would be registered against those involved and they would be fired from the position.
