KARACHI: Police arrested on Saturday three young brothers and their friend for allegedly killing their own father inside their house in District West.

The incident occurred at their house located in Shershah locality.
The three brothers, Rizwan, Faizan, Noman and their friend, Zohaib, were arrested by the Shershah police, who have registered a FIR under Section 302/34 against them on behalf of the state.

The brothers admitted to the crime, however, all the arrested suspects defended themselves and told the police that their father had a 'bad character' because of which one of their sisters was not safe from him. They accused their father, Shakeel, 51, of attempting to abuse one of their sisters, which is why they killed him.

"We didn't want to kill him but he [our father] compelled us to kill him with a knife while we were attempting to save our sister from him. He [Shakeel] was killed mistakenly during the scuffle. It was totally unintentional," they said in their statement to the police.

"We already complained to the police in 2013 against our father over the same matter at the same police station," they said.

The arrested brothers told police that they belonged to Peshawar where their father had also been arrested in a similar case.

Meanwhile, police officials claimed that the suspects killed their father intentionally. "They [the brothers] killed their father intentionally," said Shershah SHO Imdad Khawaja. "For that purpose, their friend also helped them."

The officer said police had taken action following the suspects' complaint against their father in the past, but their father had gone underground.

Shakeel's body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth. Police officials said that although the suspects have already confessed to the crime and police have also recovered the knife used in the murder, they were still looking to record the statement of the sister involved in the incident.

The case has been registered while further investigation is under way, police added.
