LAHORE:

Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notice to PML-N MNA Khawaja Saad Rafiq on an application filed by Humayun Akhtar Khan of the PML-Q asking that an election petition against Rafiq be relaunched and decided on merit.

Justice Bandial on April 1 had dismissed Akhtar’s petition for non prosecution. Khan filed an application seeking proceedings on the petition afresh.

Khan had accused his PML-N rival of concealing the volume and sources of his assets at the time of filing of nomination papers.

He said Rafiq’s claim to have won millions of rupees in prize bonds between 2003 and 2007 were not mentioned to the Election Commission. Rafiq had submitted to the court a copy of a prize bond worth Rs50 million, an intimation letter from the State Bank and a tax statement for Rs5 million, which was deducted from the prize bond.
