Another one goes missing: Interior ministry, security officials summoned

Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan of Islamabad High Court issues notice to secretary Ministry of Interior.

ISLAMABAD:

Interior ministry and security agencies were summoned by a court in a missing person’s case on Tuesday.

After a man filed a writ petition seeking the recovery of his missing son, Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan of Islamabad High Court issued a notice to the secretary Ministry of Interior, SHO Tarnol and asked them to submit their replies on April 22.

Wasif Khan, a resident of Al-Huda Colony, Dalazak Road Peshawar, filed a writ petition requesting the court for the recovery of his son Bilal Khan who went missing last year.

The counsel for the petitioner, Rehmanullah Shah, told the court that Wasif Khan and his family shifted to Islamabad from Peshawar for better employment opportunities.

On November 9, 2009, police along with security agency officials raided his house and picked up his son, he said.

“The respondents have kept my client’s son in illegal custody without any justification. He was not charged under anything nor was he produced before court,” said Shah.

Wasif Khan said that his son was not involved in any terrorist activities and enjoyed a good reputation.

“If he is guilty of anything, he should be produced before court. Keeping him in illegal detention is in violation of  basic human rights,” added the lawyer.

He prayed the court to direct the authorities to order recovery of his client’s son.
