1,000 students form chain to salute educators on World Teachers' Day

To mark World Teachers' Day, students of SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School paid tribute to teachers across Pakistan on Thursday by forming a human chain forming the phrase 'Salam Ustaad [Salute to the Teacher]' in Urdu.
Inspired by a similar chain that was recently formed in Manila, Phillipines, over 1,000 students of the school gathered to organise the chain in order to send a strong message to recognise and pay respect to the services of individuals who work tirelessly to educate the younger generation of the country.
World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is observed around the world on October 5 to honour teachers. Many functions are organised all over the world on the day to discuss various issues faced by the teaching community.
'Invest in teachers to change course of nation'
Despite being underpaid and less honoured than what they deserve, the teachers in Pakistan have been educating the country's future with sincerity and dedication. A study by Alif Ailaan reveals that in order to improve their effectiveness in classrooms, teachers require training, high-quality textbooks, a curriculum that is based on the learning needs of the students and a language policy that takes into account the cultural and linguistic diversity that constitutes the fabric of Pakistani society.
