ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Muhammad Barjees Tahir said on Monday the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would help boost tourism in the country, adding tourism was a major sector contributing to the country’s overall growth. He called tourism a major source of employment and development in far flung areas of Pakistan in the current calendar year. The minister said the global tourism sector was worth over $7.6 trillion, accounting for around 10.2% of the global economic output. “The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has introduced a tourism policy with job creation for locals being the main goal,” Tahir said, adding a large number of foreign tourists were provided entry permits during the outgoing season, which allowed the inflow of foreign exchange. He credited improved law and order situation for being the biggest game changer in improving the tourist inflow.
