KARACHI: The jobs of all employees between the scales of one to four in the Sindh education department should be regularised, members of the All Sindh Lower Staff Association demanded on Friday outside the Karachi Press Club, adding that more than 8,000 workers of the education department will be without jobs by June 31 when their contracts expire.

“We have not been paid since January 2010 and we have been told that we will soon be laid off,” Daiya Khan Jamali told The Express Tribune, adding that the demands of the employees should be met by the government.

Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, adviser to the chief minister, met with the protesters and assured them that he will take up the matter with the chief minister at the upcoming cabinet meeting. “These employees should be regularised, as have the employees in Punjab and Balochistan,” said Sheikh. He added that he will ensure that the employees are given justice, after which the people ended their protest.
