Sohail Khan’s six-for helps UBL restrict Karachi Whites to 208

Pacer starred as hosts piled on the pressure despite Hasan and Iqbal scoring half-centuries

MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan fast-bowler Sohail Khan took six wickets to help UBL restrict Karachi Whites to 208 runs on the first day of their round one fixtures of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the UBL ground in Karachi on Tuesday.

Put in to bat, Karachi Whites were dismissed for 208 in 51.3 overs as Sohail took six wickets giving away 59 runs along with Muhammad Nawaz taking 2-29. For Karachi, Muhammad Hasan scored 67 off 93 balls with Faisal Iqbal scoring 52. At the end of play, UBL were 102-3 after 31 overs.

In another match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, asked to bat first, Rawalpindi were restricted to 174 as KRL’s Yasir Ali took 6-50 while Sadaf Hussain took 3-48. For Rawalpindi, Umar Masood (53) was the top scorer. At the end of play, KRL were batting on 56-0 after 17 overs.

At the Jinnah Stadium, HBL could make just 238 in 70.4 overs after losing the toss as Fata’s Sohail Akhtar took 5-45 runs. For HBL, Ahmed Shahzad scored 73 runs with Imamul Haq scoring 41. At the end of play, FATA were in trouble though at 46-4 after nine overs with Umar Gul taking two wickets.

The LCCA Stadium also saw low scores as, asked to bat first, Lahore Whites were restricted to 244 as PTV’s Raheel Majeed and Tabish Khan took three wickets apiece giving away 23 and 56 runs respectively. At the end of day, PTV were batting on 37-3 after 14 overs.

In Pool A matches, Hasan Raza returning to domestic cricket after a two-year ban took three wickets for 87 runs in the match between Faisalabad and National Bank of Pakistan. Asked to bat first, Faisalabad were 276-8 in 90 overs.

At the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Aamir Sajjad’s unbeaten century helped WAPDA reach 297-9 against Lahore Blues while Khalid Usman scored 45 runs. For Lahore Blues, Aizaz Cheema, Bilawal Iqbal and Saifur Rehman took two wickets apiece.

At the Diamond Ground in Islamabad, SSGC were 292-7 as Asif Zakir scored 89 off 174 balls and Zain Abbas scored 44 off 79 balls. For hosts Islamabad, Shahzad Azam Rana and Hamza Nadeem took two wickets each.

At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, SNGPL’s decision to bat first backfired as they were restricted to 207 in 60 overs as Imran Khan Senior took 3-44 runs. At the end of play, Peshawar were batting on 46-1 after 17 overs.
