Toru wants visible uplift in performance

The IGP pointed out that police were passing through the most critical phase of their history.

PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toru directed high-ranking police officials to bring a visible improvement in the maintenance of law and order in the province.

“We cannot afford to be relaxed and have to keep up the pace by adopting more proactive policing,” said the police chief while presiding over a high level meeting on law and order at CPO, here on Sunday.

Addressing the participants, the IGP pointed out that police were passing through the most critical phase of their history and called for changing these challenges into opportunities to raise the image of the force through good policing.

He further directed the police high ups to lead the force from the front, be harsh on militants and show politeness to the general public.

The IGP noted the sacrifices of police officers and said the image and perception about the force among the masses has changed considerably and directed the participants to make these sacrifices more worthy by winning the hearts and minds of the people. They were also directed to remove the sense of “Thana Culture” by adopting a mild attitude with the public and join hands with people through community policing while keeping close coordination and strictly professional relations with the media.

“Every DPO should have a spokesman for this purpose that should be available to the media for sharing information at the time of any occurrence,” he said.

The IGP also directed police officers to take into account the performance of SHOs’ investigation and make efforts to improve the standard of investigation which, he added, plays a pivotal role in police performance.

Toru also ordered the deputation of a focal person in every DIG office for prompt response to the directives of the CPO.
