‘Security measures must be strictly implemented’
IG orders police to show no leniency with offenders
KARACHI:
Sindh Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khawaja has ordered that law enforcers must ensure implementation of the directions released by the home department for security during Muharram across the province and not show leniency on violations.
A statement released by the Central Police Office read that no procession should be held without prior permission and no objection certificates issued by the relevant authorities. All stakeholders must be taken on board to ensure implementation, it added.
Chairing a meeting at CPO, IG Khawaja took input from the Karachi additional IG, Special Branch additional IG, deputy IG of headquarters, zonal deputy IGs and other officials on the security arrangements made for the processions and other events that will be held during the Islamic month, the statement read.

He said that the closed circuit television cameras installed in Karachi must be monitored by a dedicated team on duty round the clock to ensure fool proof security and the IT director will responsible for managing this. IG Khawaja ordered the establishment of a temporary Muharram security command and control centre at the CPO.
He directed senior superintendents of police in the city to check security measures themselves at the places where majalis and processions will be held and deploy sufficient personnel at these places. They must be briefed about the security plan accordingly.
Meanwhile, he asked the zonal deputy IGs to keep a company of the Rapid Response Force at their disposal to deal with any untoward incidents. Also, he said that the Special Branch must check the registers of the hotels and rest houses and maintain a record of them.
