KARACHI:

A request to postpone secondary school exams for a few days has been made by the Association of the Heads Government Secondary Schools Registered Karachi, at a press conference on Saturday.

The association’s president, Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal Maan, demanded that the Sindh governor postpone the exams, which will start on April 18, due to the current law and order situation in the country. “Due to the recent target killings, exams should be delayed so students can sit them without any fear,” said Maan.

According to Maan, thousands of children were unable to submit their exam forms and would be left out.

Muhammad Arshad Baig, a representative of private schools, said that students are protesting, demanding a few more days to hand in the forms.

Baig said that the board can make admit cards for the remaining 4,000 students in one day, only if the governor permits them.

Matric exams

Board of Secondary Education, Karachi (BSEK) additional chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai has said that the overseeing committee would comprise 25 senior members to visit examination centres during the matric exams starting April 18.

Every member of the committee will visit an exam centre no more than twice. He said they would ensure the centres have electricity, drinking water and furniture.

The members would also monitor cheating cases and submit a report to the BSEK daily.

The additional chairman said the 225 centre coordination officers would distribute answer sheets and question papers to the respective centres and would have to submit all the sheets to the BSEK.
