PESHAWAR: Faizan, 17, lost an eye besides being gravely injured when Shafiq threw acid on him, in the Manakaro area of Landi Arbab, which falls within the jurisdiction of Banmarhi police station.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a police officer revealed that the accused threw acid on Faizan’s face on August 23 and claimed that Faizan had taken Rs700,000 from him.

“This dispute was never about money, and Shafiq and Faizan were friends. Shafiq was just angry that Faizan had made new friends and in his anger decided to throw acid on Faizan’s face,” informed the officer, claiming that money was just a cover-up of the heinous act.

He said that a daily report, also called roznamcha, had been registered against the accused and the police were investigating the matter.

However, a local elder told The Express Tribune that the police was not taking the case seriously as a proper FIR was not registered, even though the crime was grave and left Faizan disfigured for life.

“He spent several weeks in hospital and although he has recovered, he has lost an eye and his face has been damaged forever,” he added.
