ISLAMABAD: Scores of women, men and children from the CDA-designated ‘Model Urban Shelter Project’ in Alipur Farash, along with members of Awami Workers Party Rawalpindi-Islamabad, staged a protest on Saturday, blocking the main Lehtrar Rd with piles of trash and chanting slogans against the Capital Development Authority.

The crowd largely comprised of women, who have long suffered due to the CDA’s negligence in providing basic amenities to Farash Town. Farash Town, located on the outskirts of Islamabad, is one of the CDA’s urban shelter schemes, housing many residents who were relocated from various ‘katchi abadis’ (informal settlements) in the capital area.

Containing approximately 4,000 plots spanning over 165 acres, Farash Town is divided into three phases, but development of these phases has remained incomplete for years.
