LAHORE:
Aisam-ul-Haq and Rohan Bopanna advanced to the ATP World Championship finals at Nice on Friday.
The duo termed "The Indo Pak Express" on the ATP World Tour roared into the finals of ATP World Championship outplaying Dusan Vemic of Serbia and Leos Friedlof Czech Republic on Friday at Nice, South of France.
The pair carved out 7-6 (8/6),3-6,9-8 victory.
The strong and more experienced duo of Czech Republic and Serbia were handed a matching response by the Indo-Pak pair in all disciplines of the game.
Aisam and Rohan clinched the first set in a tie break after being down in the tie break, but lost the second set 3-6 when Rohan's serve was broken at 3-4, giving their opponents an opportunity to win the set by securing their next service game and this is exactly what they did.
With one set all, the two teams were positioned to take on the super tie break as the decider.
Aisam and Rohan were unlucky to lose the very first point of the super tie break but worked hard to snatch the opponent's advantage in the very next point. They were later up 4-3 but lost their advantage and were at one point of time 5-8 down. Here they struck back in the most effective manner as they took next two points on Vemic's serve to make it 7-8. Making no mistake on his next two serves Aisam gave his team the match point chance at 9-8. Friedl hit a good second serve that was returned lob by Rohan which could not be played by the opponents.
The final will be played tomorrow, Saturday after the second semi final result is known which is to take place between Italian pair of Andreas Seppi and Petito Starace who have defeated top seeds pair of Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Max Mirnyi of Belarus and the third seed Brazilian pair of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.
