Brand Manager at Nomi Ansari, Ammara Salahuddin, breaks down her style. She talks about how she styles her tiny frame and gives us fashion advice worth following

Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage.

How would you describe your body type?

My frame is small and my body type is petite so finding my size can be a challenge at times.

Has your body type changed over the last five years?

My body type has remained the same over the years but I’ve definitely noticed a slight change with yoga and soft cardio. You tone up and evolve mentally, spiritually and emotionally. And nothing beats that!

How has your style changed over the years?

Style is visual therapy for me, I love experimenting with different looks and am not one to shy away from bold colours, textures or prints and hence my personal style keeps evolving with time. I love how Pakistani culture is so opulent and regal and that is reflected in our embroidery techniques, silhouettes and craftsmanship. Having said that, I do believe I stay true to my inherent style- which is elegance over trends. I’m more individualistic as compared to trendy and a ‘less is more’ kind of person, so my style reflects that.

In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?

When Karachi’s humidity wreaks havoc in my hair! I think the issue I face (and a lot of girls might agree with me) is when your hair constantly needs upkeep in coastal areas like Karachi.

How do you dress your body according to your body type?

I have an unhealthy obsession with stilettos and tailored jackets. I prefer a streamlined silhouette, but I like to be comfortable at the same time. I wear a lot of tailored trousers with a wide leg, prefer tailored shirts over tees and don’t like large handbags. I have a lean frame so I sometimes choose shirts with lots of upper play, volume and can also go in the other direction and opt for a completely streamlined look.

In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?

Although style is individualistic and to each their own, one big mistake people make is over accessorising and wearing too many labels at once, looking like a shop. Too many labels and loud make-up is a big no.

Which silhouettes suit your body the most?

I mix and match my silhouettes due to my small frame. For all the petite frames out there — wear streamlined silhouettes and don’t shroud your frame in baggy clothing. These days I also love monochromes and colour blocking.

What is the one piece of clothing you shy away from wearing and why?

Revealing, skin-baring clothing and plunging necklines, I steer clear of those. A bold lip and flashy earrings do it for me.
