‘Govt has failed to honour international commitments’
CRM urged govt to devise a plan of action
LAHORE:
The government has failed to ensure compliance with international commitments to ensure the protection of children’s rights.
This was the crux of views expressed at the media briefing on Pakistan’s International Commitment Focusing on Children Rights on Saturday.
The officials of Child Rights Movement (CRM) urged the federal and provincial governments to devise a clear strategy and plan of action to ensure compliance with Pakistan’s international commitments for children’s rights.
Members of the CRM said that the government has not taken any measures to ensure implementation of child rights provisions despite being given similar recommendations by international labour organisations and committees since 2009.

CRM Provincial Coordinator Rashida Qureshi said that it was a matter of regret that a clear strategy had not been set by the government to implement ‘concluding observations and recommendations’ issued by the committee on the rights of the child in 2009 and 2016.
Qureshi said that in 2009, the state was urged by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child in its concluding observation to take all necessary measures to address those recommendations.
However, according to Qureshi, the concluding observations of the second periodic report have not yet been sufficiently implemented.
