Campaign launched to control fruit fly

The agriculture department has launched a week-long awareness campaign for the eradication of fruit fly.
In this regard, a seminar was held at the Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad on Monday with Director Agriculture Chaudhry Abdul Hameed in the chair. Agri experts, field assistants and farmers were present on the occasion.
‘Growers suffer due to fruit flies’
Hameed said the agriculture department had prepared a four-year plan to control fruit fly attack on citrus, mango and guava orchards. He said the awareness campaign was very important to control fruit fly and advised the farmers to follow instructions of the agriculture department (extension) to control the fly and increase crop production.
Agri expert Dr Dilbar Hussain said fruit fly was a very dangerous insect which caused a 30% decrease in mango, guava and kinnow productivity. The campaign will continue till August 26.
