LAHORE:
The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) strongly refuted the claims in some sections of media that it had omitted chapters on religious, national personalities and Islam from textbooks.

PCTB Spokesperson Rana Tariq told The Express Tribune that alarms were raised that the textbook board had revised the curriculum and removed some chapters pertaining to religious and national personalities.

He added, “The claims are false and fabricated and no such change has been made in the curriculum of the province.” It was claimed that the PCTB had removed chapters on religious and national personalities from the Urdu books of grade 3 and 4 and from the textbooks of English of grade 3 and 5, he maintained.

Tariq said, “There has been no removal of these chapters from the curriculum rather the PCTB has classified the topics and included the chapters in different books throughout the school curriculum to better highlight these topics.”

He pointed out that the re-distribution of the topics was made in consultation with the experts and the books were based on national curriculum of 2006.

Meanwhile, reacting on the news of changes in the curriculum, the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) announced to hold a protest against the government on Monday (today) outside the Lahore Press Club.

In a statement, the IJT said if the government did not reverse the changes in 48 hours, they would besiege the Punjab Assembly.
