K-P to include diabetes in curriculum

According to a survey, around 19.2% of residents of Haripur and Karak districts are diabetic

PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the rise of diabetes in the province, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has decided include prevention measures for the disease in the provincial curriculum.

According to a survey carried out by a provincial task force for diabetes, around 19.2% of residents of Haripur and Karak districts were found to be diabetic, or that ever sixth resident in either district was diabetic.

This was disclosed during a session to raise awareness about diabetes, its risk and prevention factors besides at a local hotel on Tuesday.

“Every person with any influence on society including religious scholars, teachers, doctors and media should create awareness among the people since diabetes is considered to be the mother of all diseases,” said K-P Health Minister Shahram Tarakai while addressing the session.

Noting that the hundreds of patients had benefitted from a pilot project which concludes on April 30, the government was preparing the PC-1 for the awareness project which would be extended to all districts of K-P soon.
