
The EIU released its Global Liveability Report 2017 a few days ago and Karachi was ranked 134th out of 140 cities. Karachi has remained at 134 for the last four years, showing little improvement.
Zaman blasted the Sindh government, especially the local government department, for the poor liveability conditions in the city, as the provincial government had been managing Karachi’s affairs for the last seven years before the local government took over last year after the local body elections in December, 2015.
Surveys conducted by the World Bank and other organisations have made similar assessments of the liveability conditions of Karachi.
The MPA pointed out that Karachi was one of the cleanest and well-managed cities under British colonial period but now has become a cesspool and hub of urban poverty and violence.

The apathy of the Sindh government towards Karachi over the last seven years, mismanagement of resources and poor urban planning have led to the sharp decline in liveability conditions of Karachi, said Zaman.
The people of Karachi demand that all levels of governments come together and formulate a long-term master plan that outlines the strategy and actions to improve the liveability of Pakistan's foremost mega city, he said.
