PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party’s provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has termed Pak-Afghan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) a goodwill gesture between the two brotherly countries.

While addressing a high-level meeting of the party at Charssada Umarzai on Friday, Sherpao welcomed the proposal of the recommencement of the JEC meetings, which were dormant due to the non-cooperative behavior of both the countries.

The commission, he said, would provide opportunity for the two countries to discuss measures to enhance economic cooperation.

The QWP leader appealed to the federal government to take serious measures at the national and diplomatic level to ensure brotherly relationship with Afghanistan, adding that it was in the interests of both the nations as well as for the peace in the entire region.

He was of the view that JEC would not only yield benefits for the two countries, but would also help enhance regional cooperation.

Sherpao said the aim of his party is to serve Pakhtuns, and it would leave no stone unturned for the purpose. “Pakhtuns have rendered huge sacrifices for the cause of Pakistan, but they have not been given their rightful reward,” he added.

He urged the leadership and workers to strengthen bond with the masses to address the problems of Pakhtuns and peace and stability in the region.

The QWP leader clarified that in order to reap the CPEC benefits and provide a conductive investment climate, it was necessary to ensure that power transmission lines were upgraded.

He also called for merging Fata into K-P before the general elections in 2018 so that a proper representation of the Pakhtuns in the National Assembly and Senate could be made possible.

The participants of the meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and party’s provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao.
