Apple launches official Instagram account to show off iPhone photography

Apple always manages to finds itself in the limelight, even when it is not launching any devices. While much of the recent speculations surround its upcoming 10th anniversary edition iPhone, the Cupertino tech giant is making headlines as Apple finally has its own Instagram account.

The account is not to give any press images or news related material but rather, an account to share works by iPhone photographers.

The company on Monday launched its @apple handle, which Apple bills as an effort to "look through the lens of iPhone users around the world".



Each post on the account is basically a video slideshow of a photographer's work along with a sound clip of her or him talking about the subject matter. Apple is also urging Instagramers to participate by using the hashtag "#ShotoniPhone."

The account amassed 20,000 followers within first 40 minutes of its existence.

Apple already maintains multiple verified Instagram accounts for the usual posts, including accounts for Apple Music, iTunes, Beats 1, iBooks, Carpool Karaoke, and even Planet of the Apps. However, this is the company’s first account dedicated for iPhone photography and the idea behind it certainly fits in line with what Instagram users want.

Apple has also used the same "Shot on iPhone" phrase on billboards around the world, to make it a photography slogan of sorts.



Instagram now has 700 million monthly active users across Apple and Android, making it the right place for Apple to market its device’s camera.
