LAHORE: Thousands of prospective students of various programmes of information technology lined up for entry tests at the Punjab University Institute of Information Technology (PUCIT) on Sunday.

The PUCIT has also, for the first time, deployed its online admissions system for checking the tests. As many as 15,800 applicants took the entry test for PUCIT BS programmes that include Bachelor of Science (Hons) in software engineering, bachelor of information technology (Hons), bachelor of science (Hons) in computer science.

Online admissions begin at PUCIT

The test was held at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore Examination hall on the Lawrence road. As thousands of test entrants lined up on the Lawrence road, the road remained suspended for traffic.

An applicant Ali said that for him it was a hassle getting to the examination hall. “But the arrangement inside the hall were satisfactory,” he said. “I was not expecting so many people and this much competition for admission.”

The entry test began at 8am and ended at 5pm. This year, the PUCIT used its online admission system. The applicants applied through the system, while the results would also be announced through the same system. The results for successful applicants will be available on the website of the college and the list will be ordered according to merit on the online system.

43,000 candidates appear for admission tests across Punjab

This year, the PUCIT deployed its automated online system to facilitate students and register for the entrance tests at the college. The system was built in-house by the PUCIT and hosted on a cloud to ensure high availability and good performance.

The automated solution allows students to register online, print challan forms, pay entrance test fee to their nearest Habib Bank Limited (HBL) branches and print roll number slips.
