LAHORE: Days after Supreme Court reserved its judgement in the Panamagate case, chants demanding prime minister’s resignation resonated in rallies held by Pakistan Peoples Party across Punjab, the PML-N’s stronghold.

Speakers in the Lahore rally, which began from Press Club and culminated at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, said Nawaz Sharif had lost all ethical right to stay in the prime minister’s office and should, therefore, step down.

The PPP leadership claimed that the Sharif family will have to answer questions about the looted money and stressed that getting rid of the rulers was the need of the hour.

Agitated party activists also burnt tyres to block the Ferozepur Road, causing a traffic jam and creating chaos.

The rally was led by Azizur Rehman Chan, Chaudhry Manzoor, Samina Ghurki, Faisal Mir and Abid Siddiqui.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, leading the PPP rally in Rawalpindi, said the whole ruling family was involved in corruption.

PPP stalwart Qamar Zaman Kaira, addressing a rally in Gujrat, said that even Nawaz Sharif’s father was ashamed of his son for his misdeeds

“Disqualification can be seen so clearly inscribed on the walls,” he said.

Taking a jibe at PPP leaders who recently joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Kaira said that insincere leaders were running to get tickets.

A rally in Jauharabad marched through the streets and ended at College Chowk. Rallies were also held in Mianwali, Sahiwal and Sheikhupura.

In Chiniot, PPP set up a protest camp in Khatam-e-Nabuwat Chowk where speakers said the protest will continue till Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigns and PPP forms the next government.

A rally was organised in Sialkot which started at Allama Iqbal Chowk and culminated at Press Club. They chanted ‘Gali Gali me Shoar hai, poora tabbar chor hai’ and ‘Go Nawaz Go’.

Addressing a rally in Faisalabad, the speakers insisted that Nawaz Sharif should shun the notion of dictatorship from his mind and honourably resign.

Rallies were also held in other cities of Punjab including Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Narowal, Sambarial and Hafizabad.
