'Certain anti-state elements wanted to silence journalists'

PESHAWAR: Journalists in Peshawar protested against manhandling of journalists in Islamabad on Saturday.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and representatives of Peshawar Press Club staged a demonstration and strongly condemned the attack on reporters by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials and demanded strict action against those responsible for the assault.

They said that certain anti-state elements wanted to silence journalists, adding that it was not just an attack on reporters but on the entire journalistic community. They demanded security for the journalists who were attacked.

The protest was headed by PPC President Alamgir Khan and General Secretary Shahab-u-Din, while PFUJ representatives and other senior journalists also attended the protest demonstration.
