Man killed, wife injured in Karo-kari incident

Police suspect incident occurred due to freewill marriage

KARACHI: A young man was killed and his wife was critically wounded when armed men opened indiscriminate fire on them inside their house in SITE.

Police’s initial investigations suggest that the couple, belonging to Malakand, got married of their free will and had been residing in Karachi in hiding. The couple has a newborn baby who remained safe during the attack.

Investigators suspect that the woman’s family could have been behind the attack, however, no arrest has been made so far as the culprits managed to escape.

B*, 25, was killed and his wife A, 25, was critically wounded when armed men entered their house located near Valika Hospital in SITE area on Saturday.

Upon hearing gunshots, the neighbours immediately reached the site and informed the police but the culprits had managed to escape by then. The victims were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where B succumbed to his injuries during.

A worked at a factory and the incident occurred when he was leaving his house for work. Two armed men entered the house and opened indiscriminate fire at him and his wife.

Police officials suspected that the incident apparently occurred over karo-kari but saidnothing could be said until the investigation was completed. A was not in a stable condition to give a statement to the police, hence the authorities are waiting to record her statement. No case has been registered till the filing of this story.
