ASI kills constable in Larkana over karo-kari dispute

Both the policemen were deployed in Dokri on by-election duty

SUKKUR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) shot dead a constable over a long-standing karo-kari dispute in Butra village within the limits of the Dokri police station in Larkana on Thursday.

Both the policemen belonged to Ratodero and were deployed in Dokri on by-election duty.

By-elections were held on Thursday on different seats of district councils, municipal corporations, municipal committees and town committees that fell vacant over various reasons. ASI Khan Muhammad Junejo and Constable Sadaruddin Junejo, along with other policemen, were deployed at a polling station in Butra village.

According to witnesses, ASI Khan opened fire at Constable Sadaruddin after heated arguments. The constable died on the spot. The people present at the polling station got hold of the ASI, snatched his rifle and locked him in a room. Later, the police were called in, who took away the accused and shifted the body to Dokri Hospital for post-mortem.

A Larkana-based reporter told The Express Tribune that ASI Khan and Constable Saddaruddin were residents of Ratodero and the killing took place over a karo-kari dispute. On Thursday, when the two were performing duty at the polling station, the ASI opened fire at the constable after an exchange of heated words.
