KARACHI:
Mayor Wasim Akhtar has declared a rain emergency in view of the forecast of heavy rains in the city.

The cleaning of drains is being done speedily to clear all choking points, he claimed on Saturday during a visit to different areas of Distict Malir, along with Korangi District Municipal Corporation Chairperson Nayyar Raza, Vice-Chairperson Ahmer Ali, MNA Sajid Ahmed and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's (KMC) municipal services head.

'Karachi's condition during rains will improve if everyone works together'

During his visit, Akhtar went to Khokhrapar, Barf Khana, Kala Board and National Highway to check and review the situation. He directed the municipal services department to provide more machinery to the Korangi DMC administration so that the drains in the area could be cleaned properly.

Such measures should be taken by the municipal staff, which can save the people from any inconvenience during the monsoon season, he said.

It's raining in Karachi and no one can handle it

Criticising the Sindh government for its indifferent attitude, he said that the citizens of Karachi were experiencing the city at its worst but the government paid no heed to their agony even though the city feeds the whole country with its major share in the national income.

He said that all KMC officials have been alerted to remain on duty during the rain emergency.

During the rain, local body representatives will be on ground to deal with any emergency situation and monitor the situation of critical storm water drains, Akhtar added.
