ISLAMABAD:
Police have arrested an Afghan national for allegedly stabbing two men in an Islamabad suburb on Friday morning. One of his victims later died.

Officials said that the suspect, identified as Qasim Khan, had allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law Zahidullah and his cousin Jan Haider in the Dhok Malyar area of Jhangi Syedan on Friday morning over a domestic dispute.

Zahidullah was stabbed in the chest and he died while being rushed to the hospital. Haider, on the other hand, survived his injuries.

Qasim’s family told the police that Zahidullah’s sister had married the suspect. When she complained of domestic abuse and violence, her brother Zahidullah and other family members intervened.

However, Qasim stabbed his brother-in-law and his cousin. Both the suspect and the victims are Afghan nationals.

The suspect had fled after the stabbings. However, police were able to arrest him a few hours later from the Motorway Chowk. Officials claimed that Qasim was trying to flee to Afghanistan when he was caught. He would be produced before a judicial magistrate on Saturday.

This was the 45th murder case registered this year so far by the capital police.

Two murders solved

Meanwhile, Police have managed to solve two murders which took place within the remits of Koral police last month.

One suspect in each case has been arrested while others are still at large. On June 11, property dealer Khurram Zafar was shot dead by unidentified men near Koral.

A homicide investigator said they checked the victim’s mobile phone records. When they called the last number the victim had dialled before he was killed, the man on the other end turned out to be one of the two killers. He was identified as Arshad Mahmood. His co-accused, however, is still at large. Police said Mahmood had killed Zafar over a financial dispute.

On June 18, unidentified motorcyclists shot at a family travelling in a vehicle, killing one and injuring two.

The victim was identified as Farhan. His family was returning from a shopping trip for Farhan’s upcoming wedding when they were shot upon.

Police said the suspects were street criminals who looted commuters. Police first tracked down the owner of the motorbike used by the suspects. Through him, they traced the actual perpetrators – Aamir Zahid. Zahid was arrested but two of his accomplices are still at large.
