ANF seize 365kg narcotics worth Rs430m

Arrest 10 people from across the country involved in smuggling, sale of drugs in 12 operations

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Thursday seized 365 kilogrammes of narcotics – worth Rs430 million in the international market – during 12 counter-narcotics operations conducted across the country.

The seized drugs comprise 358kg hashish, 4.4kg heroin and 2.32kg amphetamine. Eleven people, including two ladies, have been arrested for smuggling and selling narcotics and four vehicles impounded during the operations.

In the first operation, ANF, Quetta – on a tip-off - intercepted a truck carrying narcotics to be smuggled to Bedford near Syed Majeed Bridge, Saran Bazar in Pishin and seized 150kg hashish concealed in secret cavities of the truck. Truck driver Izzat Ullah, resident of Quetta, has been apprehended.

In the second operation, ANF, Quetta captured a Hyundai car near Jalogir Mor, Sira-wa-Shina in Quetta and recovered 100kg hashish hidden in secret cavities of the trunk. Driver Abdul Ahad, resident of Quetta, has been arrested.

In the third operation, ANF, Quetta intercepted a suspected land cruiser at Killi Norak Suleman Khel in Qilla Abdullah. The driver managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness. ANF personnel searched the vehicle and recovered 101kg hashish.

In the fourth, ANF, Rawalpindi intercepted a motorcyclist near Noor Hospital, Fateh Jang city in Attock and recovered 2kg hashish from his possession. The accused has been identified as Muhammad Ajmal Haneef, resident of Attock. He is said to be involved in supply of drugs at local level.

In the fifth, ANF, Lahore arrested a Nigerian national Ifeanyi John Okwudire at Multan Airport on suspicions of ingesting capsules filled with narcotics. Later on, 1.8kg hashish was recovered from the capsules. He was boarding Lagos-bound Qatar Airlines Flight No QR 617.

In the sixth, ANF, Lahore arrested a passenger Muhammad Fiaz Ghuman, resident of Gujranwala, at Sialkot Airport and recovered 1.985kg heroin concealed in his trolley bag. Had the ANF team not intercepted, he would have taken off for Doha by Qatar Airways Flight No QR-631.

In the seventh, the ANF team arrested two lady drug carriers - Gul Naz, resident of Swabi, and Nazia, resident of Charsadda - and recovered 2.4kg hashish from their possessions. They were arrested near the Main Stand in Sialkot.

In the eighth operation, ANF, Lahore arrested a local drug peddler Muhammad Ahsan, resident of Sialkot, and recovered 1.5kg hashish from his possession. He was arrested near Ashraf Sweet, China Chowk, Wazirabad Road in Sialkot.

In the ninth, ANF, Peshawar International Airport apprehended Muhammad Shehzad, resident of Hangu, at the airport while he was boarding Sharjah-bound Shaheen Airlines Flight No NL-792 and recovered 1.02kg amphetamine concealed in his hand bag.

In the 10th operation, ANF, Peshawar arrested Bilal, resident of Charsadda, at the Peshawar International Airport while he was boarding Shaheen Airlines Flight No NL-756 headed for Abu Dhabi and recovered 1.3kg amphetamine concealed in his hand bag.

Karachi and Sukkur are Sindh’s hub of narcotics: ANF

In the 11th operation, ANF, Peshawar recovered 1kg hashish from the possession of local drug peddler Tajdar Khan, resident of Khyber Agency, after arresting him from near Tareen Abad Stop, KKH Road, Haripur.

In the 12th operation, ANF, Karachi intercepted a Netherland-bound parcel containing marble pieces at an office of a courier service company and recovered 700 grammes of heroin from the parcel.

All cases have been registered at the respective ANF police stations and further investigations are underway.
