ISLAMABAD:
PML-N leaders mounted robust defence of the Sharif family on Wednesday as Maryam Nawaz appeared before the joint investigation team in their probe in the Panamagate case.

Launching a broadside against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman for spreading a lie that prime minister’s daughter arrived at the Judicial Academy in an official protocol, State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb reminded Imran Khan to learn how to respect daughters.

“People who are against having daughters, pass such derogatory remarks about others’ daughters,” the minister said.

Reacting to Imran's remarks, Marriyum Aurangzeb clarified that Maryam Nawaz arrived at the Judicial Academy to appear before the Joint Investigation Team in a private vehicle and her other family members also used their own cars.

“People who respect, value and own their daughters, accompanied them like this unlike you who do not own a daughter,” she said.

The daughter of the PM was accompanied by her brothers, husband and other party leaders who were there to boost her morale.

She strongly refuted Imran Khan's tweet in which he had questioned protocol given to Maryam Nawaz on her appearance before the JIT, saying that Imran was incapable of differentiating between security and protocol.

The minister said that Maryam Nawaz being the daughter of the prime minister, who had waged a successful war against terrorist outfits, was given necessary security to protect her and it was wrong to misconstrue it as a protocol.

In regards to Imran's observation about excessive deployment of security personnel the minister said that thousands of PML-N workers had come from all over the country to show their solidarity with their leader, therefore the local administration took all precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident.

"Imran Khan can’t change his habit of lying," she alleged while hitting back at the PTI chief by questioning that in what capacity he had used an official helicopter and other facilities of the Khyber-Pakhtunkwa government.

She further criticised him over misusing government resources and said that Imran should first do his own accountability over this rather than accusing others for misusing government resources.

She also asked the PTI leader to answer as to why he was not complying with court rulings and absconding.

Separately, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that internal political uncertainty was more harmful than India. “The PML-N government is being punished for the flats [of the Sharif family] in London,” he said while speaking at an awards distribution ceremony of the Technology Development Fund (TDF) at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) headquarters on Wednesday.

Iqbal said the award of 31 projects could go to the waste if the mudslinging and leg-pulling continued in the country. “We don’t need external conspiracies as internal conspirators are enough for us as the country has been taken hostage on the basis of non-issues,” he added.

The minister said that the drama unfolding for the last six months was aimed at weakening the government which has put the country on the road to development. He was referring to the questioning of the Sharif family members by the Joint Investigation Team which has been probing into the offshore assets of the ruling family.

Iqbal claimed that corruption of not even a single penny has been established against the PML-N government during the past four years, while some people were harping on the Mayfair flats of the Sharif family. “It is painful to see how conspirators are trying to undo all the development in the country,” he lamented.

The minister claimed that the recent political upheaval has inflicted $12 billion losses to the national kitty while institutions have been put on warpath. “It is said that titles like mafia and godfather have been given to top government officials,” he said, adding that it had become a norm to mock and humiliate the civilian government.”
