Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that internal political uncertainty was more harmful than India. “The PML-N government is being punished for the flats [of the Sharif family] in London,” he said while speaking at an awards distribution ceremony of the Technology Development Fund (TDF) at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) headquarters on Wednesday.

Iqbal said the award of 31 projects could go to the waste if the mudslinging and leg-pulling continued in the country. “We don’t need external conspiracies as internal conspirators are enough for us as the country has been taken hostage on the basis of non-issues,” he added.

The minister said that the drama unfolding for the last six months was aimed at weakening the government which has put the country on the road to development. He was referring to the questioning of the Sharif family members by the Joint Investigation Team which has been probing into the offshore assets of the ruling family.

Iqbal claimed that corruption of not even a single penny has been established against the PML-N government during the past four years, while some people were harping on the Mayfair flats of the Sharif family. “It is painful to see how conspirators are trying to undo all the development in the country,” he lamented.

The minister claimed that the recent political upheaval has inflicted $12 billion losses to the national kitty while institutions have been put on warpath. “It is said that titles like mafia and godfather have been given to top government officials,” he said, adding that it had become a norm to mock and humiliate the civilian government.”
