PESHAWAR:
People celebrated Eidul Fitr across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with religious zeal and traditional fanfare.

Soon after Eid prayers families were seen heading in droves to popular picnic spots in new colourful dresses and joyous mood expressing the spirit of Eid.

Families thronged city’s parks included Bagh-e-Naran, Tatara Park, Chacha Younus Park, and Shahi Bagh to celebrate Eid.

The road leading towards Sardaryab River witnessed heavy traffic congestion as people rushed towards the scenic spot to enjoy pleasant weather and entertain themselves on the banks of the Kabul river.

In Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charssada, Nowshera, Bannu, Kohistan and Pakistan’s tribal region Eid was celebrated a day earlier than the rest of the country as the sighting of the moon was declared by the clerics of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar while the rest of the districts observed it with the central Ruete Hilal committee.

The city of Peshawar wore a deserted look as most of the working people had left for their native towns for celebrating Eid  and residents of Peshawar were seen forming a beeline to the parks.

Many people complained of hike in fares of public transport going from Peshawar to other districts.

A local Azmat Ali hailing from Swat and residing in Peshawar told The Express Tribune that the fares were increased by the transporters by 30% to 50%. The district administration of Peshawar had directed transporters a few days prior to Eidul Fitr not to increase fares but the warning was in vain.
