LAHORE: Dozens of lives could be saved if burn centres set up during Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) era were functional, said PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and senior central leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.

They were speaking to the media in Gujrat on Wednesday.

Current rulers were responsible for the Ahmadpur East tragedy, they said, adding that if those burn centres were functional, there would be no need to shift patients to Lahore through a C-130 plane.

“If the PML-N did not accept the court verdict, the entire nation will be out on the roads,” said Shujat. He added that the joint investigation team (JIT) was formed on the orders of the Supreme Court and those talking against it were in fact talking against the court. The SC would give its verdict in the interest of the nation, he said.

The nation could not forget officers and soldiers martyred in the defence of the country, he said.

Parvez said that N-League ministers were talking in Nawaz Sharif’s language and when this did not satisfied them then Nawaz himself started talking. In short, the N-League wanted the verdict of its choice.

He added that projects like surgical tower and burn unit at the Mayo Hospital were built during PML-N tenure, but were still incomplete just because of the political rivalry.
