Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has lauded traders for their “peaceful strike”. According to a press release on Wednesday, Hussain said that the traders and shopkeepers want Karachi to be cleansed of extortionists and other criminals.
Their demand was loud and clear from the strike on Tuesday, the MQM chief said, while talking to members of the coordination committee at Nine Zero, the party headquarters.
Hussain lamented the attempts to weaken the business community’s unity just when the traders needed it the most to fight the extortion mafia. According to the press release, Hussain said that the traders, industrialists, businessmen and the people of Karachi in general are sick and tired of the rising crime rate.
People were forced to go on strike because the government is not providing security to them, he added. He expressed full support and solidarity with the business community and said that the MQM supports their genuine demands.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah also promised that the government would act against the extortion mafia. He was talking to media at Governor House on Wednesday.
