Sources close to Awan said he would soon resign from the Senate and join the PTI. Awan served as minister for law and justice during the previous tenure, of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). However, he parted ways with the party, following his differences with Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Awan had recently got close to the PTI chief, becoming one of his counsels in the Panamagate case. According to sources, Imran and other senior PTI leaders are invited to an Iftar party being hosted by Awan on Friday (today).
Meanwhile, Imran told the media-persons that the Army chief had personally assured him that the 2018 general election would be free and fair and that soldiers would be deputed inside and outside the polling stations.

About the ongoing Panamagate investigations, he said the government was about to lose the match. “It seems the PTI is about to win the Panama test match,” he said, adding that if the government continued to try and make the joint investigation team controversial, then the PTI would launch a mass agitation campaign after Eid.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was given a good opportunity to clear his name from corruption cases but he failed miserably,” said Imran.
He also said his party had organised its intra-party elections, foreseeing the next general election by the end of 2017.
