The security forces have seized a huge cache of weapons and ammunition during various intelligence-based operations (IBOs) carried out in parts of Khyber Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

The IBOs, which are part of the ongoing countrywide military offensive Radd-ul-Fasaad, were carried out in Akka Khel, Guli Khel and Ghaibi Nokia areas of the agency by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Frontier Corps, according to the military’s media wing. “The recoveries include submachine guns, prepared IEDs and fuses,” the communiqué read.

The development came a day after security forces claimed to have seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during IBOs in South and North Waziristan agencies. The military had last year mounted a relatively small-scale operation, codenamed Khyber-III, to secure Tirah Valley and deny terrorists ease of movement between the Khyber and Kurram agencies, and between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched after a series of deadly bombings across the country killed over 100 people in February 2017. This is overall 11th military operation launched in the country since 2007 when the country adopted a comprehensive strategy to deal with terrorism. But most of earlier campaigns restricted to the tribal regions, Balochistan and Karachi.
