Transporters warned against overcharging

Request commuters to report incidents of taking excess fare, overloading and misbehaviour

Motorway police have warned transporters against overcharging bus fares from people going to hometowns for Eidul Fitr.

It is common feature that with the coming of Eid people go to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their loved ones. People from abroad as well as major cities make it a point to be home with their kith and kin for the festivities.

However, transporters have a habit of fleecing the homebound workers by charging exorbitant rates.

National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) North Zone DIG Abbas Ahsan in a press release stressing that this year stern action would be taken against transporters found overcharging and overloading passengers.

The DIG has issued directives to all SSPs, DSPs, operations officers and field staff of North Zone to check overcharging and overloading of passengers in buses and vans specially during Eid days.

The checking will be carried out randomly at different places. Strict action will be taken on the spot and excess fare will be returned to the passengers.

Banners, streamers and notices warning transporters of overcharging and overloading with strong punitive measures will be placed at different locations.

DIG Ehsan has requested the commuters to cooperate with the Motorway police and inform on Helpline 130 if any transporter charges extra fare or misbehaves with them.

He said that 12 special squads would be deployed to counter the miscreants and to control crime during Eidul Fitr vacations.

One squad will serve in each beat, as most of the people carry valuables while traveling on G.T Road.

Lastly DIG stated free flow of traffic would be ensured so that commuters reach their home towns safely to celebrate the festive occasion with their loved ones.
