In court: Murdered allama’s mother wants compensation
The state was put on notice for a date to be specified later in a petition filed by the mother of Allama Athar Hussain Naqvi, who was gunned down on May 3, 2001.
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi were hearing a petition filed by the Human Rights Commission for South Asia and Naqvi’s mother, Muhammad Bano.
The petitioners said that Naqvi was standing in front of his house when some unidentified assailants sprayed him with bullets. Bano said she went to the police and the provincial ombudsman for compensation but her application remains pending with the Sindh home department to date.
The government should compensate those who die in sectarian or target killings, she added.
