Medical Superintendent of Lahore General Hospital Dr Ghulam Sabir said that the department of pathology is responsible for laboratory tests and diagnoses of all inpatients and outpatients at the hospital.
“Our attending pathologist staff in the centralised lab has more aggregate experience in the diagnosis of diseases,” he claimed.
As the lab is located inside the hospital, the department provides direct access and timely results for our physicians, clinics and operating rooms, he said, adding that trainee doctors would also get benefits of the lab for development and research during their medical practice.

Dr Ghulam said this pathological lab is also providing microarray total solution for microbiology, extraction system, haematology, histopathology, chemical pathology and stem cell.
A centralised lab has also been established at Mayo Hospital. According to the hospital’s Dr Salman Kazmi, earlier the lab was set up in different wards and patients had to face a lot of problems to get their test reports.
“This lab remains functional round the clock and all paediatric, cardio and neurology tests are being conducted through one window operation,” he said.
The health department spokesman said labs are essential in the diagnoses of diseases so the department set up centralised pathological labs at all teaching hospitals across the province.
He said that the steps have been taken to provide high quality facilities at all teaching hospitals.
“It is our goal to resolve issues and concerns in a timely manner and through the centralised labs we ensure that primary medical care is being provided to the public,” he added.
