LAHORE:

An illegal dog fighting event allegedly involving gambling was reportedly organised on Sunday in the Bakhri area of Qasim Bela on the outskirts of Multan.

According to local sources, the dog fights were organised openly with a large number of spectators present.

Videos of the fights later surfaced on social media. The sources said heavy betting took place during the events.

They said bear fighting was also allegedly organised at the same venue. The activities fall under animal cruelty and con-stitute a punishable offence under the law.

The fights involving dogs and other animals are banned in Punjab.

Meanwhile, several non-governmental organisations working for animal rights have condemned the incident.
