Emergency services sharpen their ‘eyes and ears’
Audio, video operators trained on incident reporting and effective monitoring
LAHORE:
Media coordinators of the Punjab Emergency Services are the eyes and ears of Rescue 1122 and will have to play a key role in effectively monitoring emergency operations, workings and staff outlook.
This was stated by Rescue 1122 DG Rizwan Naseer as he spoke at a two-day long refresher training workshop. The exercise was concluded at the Managers’ Training Centre of the Emergency Services Academy on Saturday.
“You have to play a role in connecting the bridge between the public, media and the service, while engaging all stakeholders of society to ensure the prevention of emergencies,” he said.
Road Sense : Rescue 1122 launches scout programme
The basic purpose of the workshop was to train the audio video operators/cameraman on incident reporting, effective monitoring of emergency staff, turnout gear, visual monitoring of operations, event management, coordination with media professionals, emergency operation sites and performance accountability.
Public Relations Head Jam Sajjad Hussain was the course coordinator. Academy registrar Dr Farhan Khalid, Law and administration head Ali Hassan, Emergency Coordination officer Mohsin Durrani and Art Section in Charge Imran Ali were present on the occasion.
Punjab DG Rescue 1122 said the media is an important pillar of state and can play an effective role in preventing emergencies through the education of citizens.
He said monitoring was essential to ensure emergency staff worked in a professional manner when managing trauma patients, medical emergencies, fires, building collapses and hazardous material etc.
Final touches: Rescue 1122 to start patient transfer service
The DG said a picture speaks a thousand words and can be an effective tool to monitor the professional conduct of rescue workers in the field. He further stressed on the need to ensure uniform standards of emergency services in all districts of Punjab. According to him, reporting and visuals of emergency operations depict several hidden aspects and can identify further steps for improvement.
Dr Rizwan said visual feedback may further motivate rescuers to improve their performance in professional firefighting and emergency management. Later, he distributed commendatory certificates among the participants and organisers of the workshop.
