Power up: WWF and SNGPL collaborate for cheap energy
The project will improve rural living by providing affordable and sustainable energy
LAHORE:
The World Wildlife Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have signed a MoU to provide energy to rural communities in cotton and rice producing areas of the country.
The formal agreement was signed by WWF-Pakistan Director General Hammad Naqi Khan and SNGPL Managing Director Amjad Latif in the presence of senior management from both sides at a ceremony held at the SNGPL head office.
SNGPL directed to complete gas projects in K-P
WWF-Pakistan, with the financial support from SNGPL, will implement the project titled Agro-Waste Community Enterprise to Provide Alternate Energy for Households and Small-Businesses (AWARE). The aim is to provide clean cooking stoves, fuelled by agro-waste, as an alternate means of energy to rural communities.
The project will promote eco-friendly, alternate energy sources for rural households and small businesses by using agro-waste as fuel. It is a low-cost, user friendly and clean source of energy for cooking with great potential for wider dissemination among rural communities where different agro-wastes are available in abundant form.
Speaking on the occasion, WWF-Pakistan Director General said, “This project will not only improve rural livelihoods by ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and clean energy, but will also help promote environmental stewardship and encourage climate change mitigation.”
Amjad Latif said that as an organisation, SNGPL was committed to the conservation and protection of the environment.
