JI hoists black flag outside K-E head office in Karachi

Party continues show of protest against disrupted supply of electricity to the city

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) observed a black day on Friday and hoisted a black flag in front of K-Electric's (K-E) head office to record their protest against the power company's unannounced power cuts and the disrupted supply of electricity to the city since the begining of Ramazan.

K-E has made the holy month of Ramazan a problematic month for the people of Karachi, as they are being deprived of the basic needs of electricity and water in sweltering weather, said JI's Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman. "They [K-E] have gone out of the control of any government since they have been privatised," he said while talking to the media at the protest.

He told the government to fear the day when the people will start coming out onto the streets and refuse to accept the system.



"Unfortunately, the Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Quami Movement are still busy keeping their friendship with K-E and are saying that everything is good," he lamented.

He demanded that according to Article 245 of the Constitution, K-E should be handed over to the Pakistan Army and its privatisation should end.

The leaders are busy saving K-E's face, Rehman accused. "It seems like K-E has bought the government," the JI Karachi chief added.
JI leaders had also submitted Thursday night an application to register a FIR against K-E officials at the Sharae Faisal police station.



The party has been protesting against K-E for the last three months and has recorded their protests on almost all platforms; taking their complaints to the judiciary as well as the Sindh governor.

Meanwhile, the K-E security officers removed the black flags put up by the JI officials at the utility's head office as soon as the JI protestors left the area.
