A huge fire broke out in an oil mill on Vehari Road that gutted four shops, two houses and caused loss of millions of rupees. However, the firefighters doused the blaze after hectic efforts of several hours.
As many as 24 fire trucks were used in the operation to control the inferno. As a result of the fire, four shops and two houses in the area were completely destroyed.
As soon as the fire erupted, the supply of electricity in the area was suspended by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO).

The fire affected three MEPCO feeders, according to power utility's spokesperson. He added that restoration of feeders was under way. Rescue officials said there was about 50,000 gallons of mobil oil in the factory's basement.
Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Abdul Jabbar Bhatti said the fire started In Ahmed Oil Mills after a fault in one of its main generators. He said all possible resources were utilised to control the ablaze.
He maintained that 12 fire engines of Rescue 1122 Multan, two of Muzaffargarh, two of Khanewal, and six vehicles of the Multan city district government fire service and one of the Civil Aviation participated in the operation.
He pointed out that all nearby buildings and factories were evacuated and people were shifted to safer place.
