Snapchat on Tuesday rolled out custom stories, a feature that enables users to create stories for select friends and family members or for contacts in a specific location.

“Today we’re announcing a new way to create custom Stories – about anything, with any of your friends, even for a specific location,” read a statement on the company website.

Snapchat rolls out massive update to change everything

The latest feature is perfect for occasions such as trips, birthday parties, or a new baby story just for the family.

While creating non-geofenced custom Stories, users can decide who can add to the story and who can view it. They will also be able to select additional friends who can view the custom stories but won’t be able to contribute to it.

Snapchat adds more accessible search feature

Users can also choose to geofence their stories, which means friends within a specified vicinity will be able to view and add to the story. They can set up the story and let friends of friends also join in. However, users cannot classify who can contribute to the story and who can just view it.

Custom stories will disappear if no one from the group adds anything for 24 hours.

To add your custom story, simply tap the “Create Story” icon in the top right corner of the Stories page, give it a name, and then invite the friends you want to participate.
