New Delhi seeks consular access to citizen arrested in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD :
India has sought consular access from Pakistan over an Indian national who was reportedly held in Islamabad for not having complete travel and visa documents.

Sheikh Nabi Ahmed, who hailed from Jogeshwari East in Mumbai, has been taken into custody after he provided no travel or visa documents on May 19, according to media reports.

The Indian national was stopped at a check post, when he was walking on a road. Police needed to check his visa documents when the person Ahmed told them that he was an Indian. However, the Indian national could not provide any documents and was held into police custody, the reports said.

Also, the Indian High Commission in Pakistan has sought consular access with other details from the Pakistani government with reports about the Indian national being arrested for not acquiring travel and visa documents, officials sources in New Delhi said.

Ahmed’s arrest came days after the International Court of Justice announced the execution of another Indian national Khulbhushan Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by the Pakistani military court.
