UMT gets new rector

Dr Aslam is a nuclear scientist, but he rendered his services to the academia.

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) has appointed Dr Muhammad Aslam, a nuclear scientist, as its new Rector. The varsity administration announced this during a press conference on Monday.

Dr Aslam was the rector of the Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIES) from 2003 to 2016 and is the second full-time rector of the university with a four-year term.

He has replaced founding rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad. Dr Aslam is a nuclear scientist, but he rendered his services to the academia. The government of Pakistan granted him Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2013 for his services to the country.

The university management said it advertised the position and 52 applications from highly competent and leading academicians were received in response. ILM Trust Chairman Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said the selection had been done transparently and followed the due process. He solicited for the cooperation of all members of faculty and staff, advising them to fully support the new rector.
