DERA GHAZI KHAN: At least two armed bandits deprived the employees of a textile mill of money which they withdrew from a bank in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday. Police said the mill belonged to Member National Assembly Sardar Jaffer Khan Leghari.

A police official told The Express Tribune that employees of Choti Textile Mills, Hafeez Ahmed and Khalid Mehmood, withdrew one million cash from a local bank. “However, when they were on their way in a vehicle to the mill, two unidentified outlaws riding a motorcycle intercepted them near Sangam Chowk and tried to snatch the money,” he added.

The official maintained the employees put up resistance and as a result, the criminals opened fire on them and fled with the booty.

“Both Hafeez and Khalid suffered bullet injuries and were shifted to the Teaching Hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan for treatment. The doctors at the hospital told The Express Tribune that the condition of the injured was critical due to excessive blood loss. However, efforts were being carried out to save the lives of the victims, they added.

Soon after the incident, the police reached the spot and gathered evidence from the crime scene. They also recorded statements of the injured mill workers. The police have registered a case and started investigation.

While speaking to journalists, MNA Sardar Jaffer Khan Leghari condemned the incident and said, “This is not the first incident in the area. Such incidents have occurred in the past too but the police failed to arrest the culprits involved behind them.” He added, “We have requested the police several times to curb such incidents but to no avail.”

“If National Assembly members are not safe then how can a common man be safe too?” he asked. The MNA pointed out, “In several incidents of such nature, the police did not register an FIR which speaks volumes of their performance.”

He demanded the government to take measures to nab the culprits and protect the lives and valuables of the citizens.
