KMC City Council passes resolution against Mustafa Kamal unanimously
MQM-Pakistan’s Advocate Arif Khan asked PSP leader to apologise for his foul remarks against mayor
KARACHI:
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's (KMC) City Council unanimously adopted a resolution against former Karachi mayor and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairperson Mustafa Kamal for passing derogatory remarks against the incumbent mayor, Wasim Akhtar, who belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM).
The resolution was moved by MQM-Pakistan's Advocate Arif Khan, who warned Kamal that if he continues to use such remarks against the mayor, he would be responsible for any sort of reaction from the public. “The mayor is not only of few people but of the entire city,” said Khan, adding that the person who himself has been on the mayor's position should not use foul remarks for the incumbent mayor.
Khan warned of protests on every street of the city if such derogatory words against the mayor are used again. He asked Kamal to take his words back and seek apology from Akhtar. Commenting on PSP's Million March, Khan said even a child knew that Kamal would be released shortly after he was arrested.

Another resolution was passed in the council for the up-gradation of the leprosy hospital under Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in Manghopir. MQM-Pakistan's member Shahana told the council that it is the largest hospital in Pakistan for leprosy, where patients come all the way from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan for treatment. To this, a member of the opposition demanded that the council should be provided with the list of all the hospitals under KMC and their staff.
Syed Akbar Shah from union council three drew attention to the dilapidated condition of the leprosy hospital, while another member argued that Manghopir should be in district council's jurisdiction and not in KMC's. “This has to be made clear who actually owns the hospital," the member said. To this, Karachi Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra, who was conducting the session, clarified that the hospital is under the KMC's management.
The council also passed a resolution for the up-gradation of food laboratory in the city. A member belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said every edible item in the city is adulterated. He shared his experience, when he witnessed a shopkeeper in Gulistan-e-Jauhar selling mineral water with fake packaging of branded companies. Reacting to this, Abdul Rahim from union council five said a PPP member, instead of complaining in the council session, should have rather asked his government to put the shopkeeper behind bars.

At the conclusion of the session, a female member, Rehana Nasreen, who claims affiliation with MQM- London, raised hue and cry for not entertaining her resolution regarding a member of the council, Muhammad Faroor from Korangi District, who few months back had chanted slogans in favour of MQM's founder Altaf Hussain and then was arrested by the Rangers. At this, few female members of the council started chanting slogans in support of Hussain.
